Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital ten days after testing positive for coronavirus, Downing Street announced tonight.
The Prime Minister, who is still suffering from the symptoms of the disease, will undergo tests at an unknown London hospital as a precaution.
A Downing Street spokesperson said: ‘On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests.
“This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus ten days after testing positive for the virus.
“The Prime Minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the Government’s advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”
Mr Johnson will remain in charge of the government, and he was not taken to hospital as an emergency admission.
In a Tweet on the March 27 Johnson video messaged the nation to say “I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.
“Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives.”

It this point Johnson it is unknown if the prime minister has stepped down. It seems unlikely he could continue to lead the government if he is admitted to hospital for any period of time.
