BREAKING: 53-Year-Old British Man Arrested After Car Hits Pedestrians in Liverpool City Centre
Merseyside Police have confirmed that a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area has been arrested following a serious incident on Water Street this evening.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 6:00pm after reports that a car had collided with multiple pedestrians in the heart of Liverpool’s city centre. The full extent of injuries is not yet confirmed, and there is no official word on fatalities.
The incident occurred just hours after large crowds had gathered nearby to celebrate Liverpool FC’s Premier League trophy parade.
A police spokesperson has urged the public not to speculate:
“We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre. We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.”
Air ambulances have been deployed and large sections of the area remain cordoned off as forensic and collision investigators work at the scene.
